Explore the perfume capital of India 

Situated on the banks of the river Ganges, Kannauj has had a rich historical past. Deemed as the “Grasse of the East” It also served as the capital of ruling kingdoms of India from as early as the 4th century. 

It’s hard to believe that it once housed a flourishing Buddhist population with over 100 monasteries spread across its plains. 

This influence can also be seen in the stone carved statues and ornate buildings adorning the city dating back a 1000 years.

 

Perfumery in kannauj has been recorded in history as early as the 6th century, when kannauj was ruled by its finest,  king Harshvardhan. The industry Further flourished during the reign of the Mughal emperor Jahangir with rose being the favourite of his Queen Nur Jahan.

Once a fortress, the city we see today is built on the ruins of old kannauj.
